The last month or so of our time before leaving the US for extended slow travel around the world has been filled with hundreds of goodbyes, some forever but many only temporary.
Goodbye photos of childhood pets as I scanned them into my digital library and then threw them away.
Goodbye to a favorite Christmas ornament that I accidentally broke while packing it for storage, then threw away.
Goodbye to the ones I didn’t break and then stowed in a corner of our small storage unit.
Goodbye to the couch and loveseat that we bought for our house after we got married and have now gifted it to a friend furnishing a new home.
Goodbye to longtime friends from work, church, and various dance scenes.
Goodbye to our house that we spent hours of sweat equity on before we got married, and will soon (we hope) be sold to a new homeowner or real estate investor.
Goodbye to our cars, and to the mindset of needing to drive everywhere
Goodbye to dozens of bottles of liquor that entertained us and our facebook friends as Trevis made his daily cocktails during the pandemic, some to storage, some down the drain.
Goodbye to paintings and prints of landscapes and portraits we made that decorated our walls and are now in storage.
Goodbye to tango shoes that were impractical to bring in our luggage, so are in storage for now.
Goodbye to so much random stuff! Who knew??
Goodbye to parents and siblings, nieces and nephews who will worry about and pray for us while we’re away.
Goodbye to drinking from the faucet and flushing our toilet paper!
