As a person who was born and lived his whole life in the United States, my knowledge of China from an early age was always seen through that lens. The far east, this mysterious place with unusual customs and strange food that they eat with sticks?!?

I began with the intention of reading a particular book during our time in China that I had seen recommended – I won’t name names, but it was not for me.

The region is well known in China because of the yellow mountains. It’s a spectacularly beautiful area with stark granite peaks and sheer shards of rock jutting straight up into the sky at stunning angles.

After my success sending mail back to the US from Mexico, I was more confident that I’d be able to repeat my success in another country.

During our first two days in the Huangshan region, our travel agent set us up in a rural boutique hotel called Pig’s Inn Bishan.

We visited Shanghai for the first time in 2017.  It was a pretty short stay that time too, but we did manage to see The Bund and go to the top of Shanghai Tower for epic city views.  This time our time in Shanghai was generally unplanned.
